Adnan al-Rahbi is the precocious, adventurous son of Puja, and third in the Al-Rahbi line to hold the title of Caliph. Born of Puja and his wife, the former Khadi San’a several years after the Awakening, Adnan is the first Caliph to hold the title that does not have personal knowledge of those tumultuous times, and it shows. Adnan often laments that he has been born in an age without a proper challenge and often took to roaming the streets of the city in disguise, looking for adventure wherever it could be found, getting into several close scrapes along the way. This behavior was encouraged by his father, much to the chagrin of Adnan’s bodyguards. Still, the boy certainly seems to have a bit of his father’s famous luck to him as he’s survived all of his trials with what is becoming an Al-Rahbi-like flair.

Somewhat tempered from his work on the city expansion, Adnan is not the raucous youth he once was but he remains quite willing to take risks beyond what many of his more cautious advisors appreciate. This attitude has also put him at odds against the opinionated Sultan as the two have begun openly struggling for power. Adnan remains confident of victory however, he has the might of recent centuries and the love of the people have for his line behind him. So far as he is concerned all he needs to do to shore up his power is to prove himself as worthy of the title of Caliph as his father and grandmother were. His own personal life is strained however. Adnan has always been adventurous, including with women. This has put a great deal of strain on his marriage to a Dahabi woman of House Rashid.

Raised in the lap of luxury, Adnan only has the barest understanding of common life in the city that he so often snuck about in secret, which some say is still more than most of those that live in the Palace. He is a lover of stories, and, just as his name-sake, is able to craft tales which leave the listener transfixed. His way with words has, so far, left him with the advantage in his near constant sparring matches with Haidar, but it is not hard to see that both are getting too involved in their personal dispute.
